|Name :||2014 Hofberg Riesling trocken|
|Vinyard – Location||The Grand Cru Hofberg is one of the greatest Mosel vinyards. In 1868 the vinyards of this hill were classified by the Preußen as an extraordinary place to make great Rieslings. The main part of the vinyards in our region are situated on the Mosel river. But not the Hofberg. It`s a lovely quiet side-valley on the Dhron river with weathered devonia slate in mixture with quarzite. Riesling vines are today 30 to 60 years old and some are still ungrafted.
A perfect place to vinify remarkable wines. Even though young, the wines often show a striking exotic fruit, subtle spice, wild slate aromas and a finesse of acidity.
|Winemaking notes||We try to work as similar as our forefathers did in the 20s. Small yields (in 2014 40 hl by hectar) of late-harvested Riesling grapes are gently handled and pressed after a few hours of skin contact. The fresh juice is fermented by wild yeasts and aged in old wooden barrels of 1000 litre sizes. Our wines get no fining and are only filtered once before bottling.|
|Tasting notes||„A lot of color and commandingly serious walnut and slate fragrance; the palate is proud, monumental and almost solemn, Riesling as serious business, Riesling in its fundamental mineral being. Picked „only“ at 94 ° for elegance and drinkability (bless him!), the wine has inscrutable depth; a Doctoral thesis of slate.“ – Terry Theise
Harvested in late october, these grapes offer dark fruity notes. Blackberry and currant meet long- lasting minerality. Our Hofberg presents itself powerful, but not too alcoholic and shows how beautiful dry wines from the Mosel can be.
